Senoia Raceway June 26th, 2010 What a Night
What can you say but what a night it turned out to be at New Senoia Raceway on what was supposed to be a full moon night, the moon was hiding behind clouds thus taking off the racers nightmare, it did appear when the Enduro race was being run but that was too late because the other features were over.
Again the Modified Mini race was without #9 Evan Lancaster who I hate to report but has broken his right foot when his ATV fell on it. He is in pain and won’t be racing for a while but this is what happens when you ride motorcycles and then want to race.
Evan needs to hang up the ATV deal, and concentrate on winning races all over the South. "GET WELL EVAN, and hurry back to racing"
So the Modified mini race was another low car turn out, but all time champion Frank Long #07 was back and had his car in winning shape, as again he took the Modified Mini car win, with ease.
In the Hobby race what could you say but it was scheduled for 20 laps and seems like 30 laps, as cars were wrecking all over the track. The main wreck came from #4 Cory Potts who drove over and into car #91 and was almost on his side on the front straight away when his car would come to a halt. That was really when the action picked up as Cory exited the car, ready to fight all the folks that came running over to congratulate him for tearing up his car, he almost went over the wall after some folks before Security came rushing in to make the fans scatter. It was almost like a free for all, and he was the main target, seems Cory is trying to drive a B-Cadet car in the Hobby race and even if he wins, he is disqualified and my question is why race in a race you know your car will be disqualified in every Saturday night?
Seems someone needs to tell him more about racing, and winning.
Anyway the race would go on, and on, and on, and seem like it was never going to end but when it did end we did have a winner. He was none other than, #4 of Tyler Brown, who is great friends with the Late Model driver of #21c Kenny “Quick” Collins.
Finishing in 2nd place was #M4 of Winford Minix and in 3rd place was #74 of Jamie Garner.
When the Hobby race was over we could all sit back and watch the Crate and Limited Late Models qualify, and there were some fast times mainly set by #21c of Kenny “Quick” Collins who blistered the track with a 14.80 are what could have been faster.
After the qualifying it was time for the big boys the B-Cadet cars to roll on the track and larger than life #3 Jeff Carter was on the pole. What was amazing about this was during hot laps Jeff’s car went smashing into the inside wall, as his car got hung up in the mud, when it was over the tow truck was hauling him back to the infield pit area to where his trailer was so that he could load the lump of what was a great car back onto his hauler.
But wait who says Jeff Carter is down and out, oh that’s right I did because from where I was standing filming the race, his car and wheels were smashed in and I would look to my spotter and say that is his night it’s all over.
But when the race started there he was pulling out onto the track as if a miracle had happened to his car.
The miracle came from 3 angels, are friends, one was late model driver #73 Racing Jason Williams, two by #25 late model driver who was not racing this night Scott Duffy and third from another friend Johnny Puckett, with the help of these good friends, and Robbie Carter Jeff’s son and also “Sunshine” Terry Finnel, they were able to some how get Jeff’s car ready to race. They were pulling tires and fixing bent up parts, it was a amazing feat of workmanship and drivers showing they cared.
Most race drivers, would not help each other, but you know the about people I mentioned are not “MOST DRIVERS” they are caring and thoughtful and want to help a winner.
All in all they helped Jeff with the breaking down of tires, and fixing a bent dragline that was bent into an “L” shape. It was hard work and everyone was rushing doing what they could do to help Jeff make the race. It was almost as good as those boys in NASCAR except they did not have all the fancy tools, but they did have will power and get up and go. I would hate to leave out the cheerleader of the bunch and that was “Mama Lisa Carter”, who was sick when he hit the wall but came to life when everyone was scrambling to get his car back in running shape.
All in all when the B-Cadet cars were pulling onto the track I was focused on the back straight where they come onto the track when my spotter “Jake, said look here comes Jeff Carter”, it was amazing and I was in denial. I could not see any way that Carter would be in the race, as a matter of fact I told Jake if he runs he will not finish because a wheel will come off, come on Tino get real.
When Carter lined up on the pole with #22 William Blair next to him I could not believe it, also in this race would be #4 of Robin Collins, ever heard his name well if not that is Kenny Collins father, and he would be racing in B-Cadet, I had know idea at the time I was filming who he was.
But I did know who #01 was and that was young gun Blant Duke who is known for having a winning attitude, and also #31 of Lee Fuller, who has found no love loss with Jeff Carter, also racing were 2 of the Bright boys #T7 of Tim Bright and #777 of Michael Bright and adding to the field was #GT47 of Thomas Phillips.
When the race started it was all Jeff Carter, as he drove the tires off of his race car, and was turning like there was no tomorrow, he was in a rush and that rush was to win something he did last week, it seems he has this thing called “A Winning Spirit” in him now, and the Big Man has become a crowd favorite with all the fans at Senoia raceway.
He reminds you a little of NASCARS legend Buddy Baker, who was a huge man, and when he races they did not have all these fancy cars they had real cars, and he just mashed the gas, sometimes losing races because they said he was to hard on his car.
Now Jeff had no idea that #4 was Kenny Collins father but then again, the driver of the #4 was just another opponent someone else he had to beat.
So in reality he was not looking back, all I do know is that Duke took out GT47 and that is when I believe Lee Fuller could have cut a tire because there was lots of spinning cars and lots of metal flying and I could see Fuller run over what I believe to be metal, which is why he came into the pits never to return.
When the Checkered flag was flying it was Jeff Carter in his #3 car flying under it, and coming in 2nd was Robin Collins with #01 of Blant Duke coming in 3rd.
Carter would bring his #3 car in front of the flag stand and give thanks to a crew that got him back in the race, and also thank the great fans of Senoia Raceway, he was a winner for the 2nd week in a row and I would not count him out in next weekends big race at the New Senoia Raceway, if he wins maybe someone should put a “BOUNTY” on him like they did Scott Sherrer in Hobby and also Mike Ray in Enduro.
When the B-Cadets had rolled off the track it was time for the always fast Nesmith Crate Cars, and leading the way was #0 of Craig Scott, but he was in a battle with long time driver, #55 of Parish Duncan who seems to have been racing forever.
Also in this race was young and talented 14 year old Matt Dooley driving #18 , he would spin twice all because of one small part, I look for Dooley to be back and racing harder at Senoia Raceway, he is one talented young man that knows how to drive. He is also a crowd favorite and that is something to say for someone of his age.
Also in this super race were driver like, #19 of Jeremy Hall, #25 of Dustin Hendrix, #16 of Trey White plus #T11 of Troy Tyson And #21 of Johnny Stinchcomb and lastly #32 of Bobby Mills.
flew it was all CraiBut when the green flag g Scott in his #0 super fast car. Chasing him was #55 Parish Duncan and it was hard to believe but #19 Jeremy Hall would finish in 3rd place. There was NO SHOW of Tony Kemp, which was amazing in itself.
Matt Dooley would finish respectfully in 6th place and ahead of him would be #25 of Dustin Hendrix and #16 of Trey White.
When the Limited Late Models pulled onto the track we knew it was going to be a fast night, as you would have #21c of Kenny Collins on the pole.
But the field was packed with outstanding drivers like #73 of “Racing Jason Williams” plus #9 of Shane Fulcher, and then we had #11 of Ryan Law a driver I had not seen for some time.
How could you forget #99 Rucker Orr, and #27 of Glenn Morris not to mention #89 of Carey Smith, and #28 of Daniel Goodman.
The track was minus last weeks 40 lap $2000 winner, Shane Criswell in his #18c, who was probably taking some time off and relaxing.
But like all great races, the green flag fell and every driver was headed to the front, but the driver that had what it took was talented #21c of Kenny “Quick” Collins, who was blistering the way around the track in his revised car, that he had worked on for so long, his win was a fitting finish to a great and exciting race.
His closest competitor was #9 of Shane Fulcher who knows how to win the big races at Senoia, plus #73 of Racing Jason William, who promised me he would beat Rucker Orr, in some way.
Glen Morris would go on and finish in 4th place and Rucker Orr would finish in 5th place, something unusual for Orr.
Winning the race and getting a standing ovation from the Senoia Raceway crowd was young 19 year old Kenny “Quick” Collins.
In 2nd place was #9 of Shane Fulcher
And coming in 3rd was #73 of Racing Jason Williams one class driver.
When the pure mini stock cars rolled out onto the track I knew we were in for another gunfight, and that was because #16 last weeks winner Steven Hill who would be looking for his 2nd win at Senoia.
But this race was filled with cars that just did not wanted Steven to win like, #4 of Dusty Jones, #7 of Russel Bright, not to mention #54 of “Stormin Norman Chambers”, plus #00 of Matthew Black, and #19 of Vernon Nix plus hard charging #80 of Benton Morris and #12 of Gary Parker, plus add #J17 of Joe Spencer and you have a race and a half.
The race was tight up until, coming around turn 1 into turn 2 Steven Hill got a little help from some friends and was sent spinning, and that would be his night.
But the night belonged to young 16 year old #4 of Dusty Jones who has been making it a habit of winning at New Senoia Raceway, and if he does not win he comes in a close 2nd in almost every race.
So winning the Pure Mini Stock race was again was #4 of Dusty Jones who blazed his way around the raceway.
Coming in a close 2nd was #80 of Benton Morris and finishing in 3rd place was #12 of Gary Parker finishing in 4th place was always intimidating #7 of Russel Bright.
As the last race of the night came upon us, that is when the full moon broke out from behind the clouds. The race was packed with some super drivers like #99 Mike Ray, who got out of the grandstands to race again, plus #21 of Kevin Horton, plus #4 of Michel Nelms and #16 of Austin Horton, then we had the #21s of Sammy Barge plus legendary #86 of Pappy Powell.
But finishing and winning the race was #21 of Kevin Horton followed in 2nd place by #21s of Sammy Barge, and coming in 3rd was #4 of Michael Nelms
That would come to a close another night at Senoia Raceway where every Saturday Night drivers come to “Play in the Clay”.
We hope we see you next weekend for another weekend of racing plus at the end a all out war of a demolishtion derby FWD ONLY, this should get crazy.
I don’t have anything to add regarding the food at Senoia except it is TOP OF THE LINE, and you need to thank all the kitchen help that Mark Mills has put together, everyone of them is kind and considerate and thoughtful. Serving you with a smile, something you won’t see at other tracks.
Many Thanks to everyone,
Thank again, Tino Patti
