West Georgia Speedway, 2009 "Are you Ready to Rumble"
The clay is ready, the drivers are getting ready the Pit area is being cleaned out, as well as the places for fans to sit. Racing Season is about here, and the drivers of every class and feature are ready to try and make it through another season at "The Burg" as West Georgia Speedway is called.
The modified mini drivers, are ready and they are some of the best, including #06 of Richard Bagby, his son driving the #19 Richard Dale, then you have the always dangerous #07 of Frank Long, add some more drivers in the mix and you will see some great modified mini car races at the "Burg" this season.
Sammy Duke the promoter and owner of this Historic Track, will see some great hobby cars take his track, and bring the fans to their feet.
Drivers like, #3 of Jeff Carter always shows up to win, and his car is as polished as no other car.
Also the #07 of Blant Duke, will be running as hard as can be, he never lets up and has some kind of killer instinct in him. He knows when the white flag is out, and he also knows how to block and better yet make the pass.
Now throw in some other drivers, like Joe Hillman (if he drives this season) and you will see some real action.
Hobby cars are what gets people's adrenaline flowing. Nothing is better than watching a string of cars come past the flag stand at full throttle and head into turn 1 and 2, with the dust a flying.
So if you are new to racing, get ready to see some exciting races this 2009 season.
There will also be the Crate car races, they are super to watch, and can be almost as fast as the Sportsman cars
. On of the top drivers in this class is #K17 of Mark Knight, his famous blue car can be found streaking around the track, Mark is a driver that will not wreck you for a win, he is all class and a gentleman. Now when you add in the #16 of the famous Tony Kemp plus add in more cars in the crate race, that's when you will see some real hard fought battles.
After the Crates run, that is when we all get to stretch our feet and head to the friendly concession stand for some food, my favorite has always been the Nacho's covered with cheese and Jalapeno's. Also may I add they make the best Onion rings of any track. Top it off with a cold drink, and your set for the second half of racing.
Now you hear the Thunder, as the Sportsman cars, fire their engines and proceed out onto the track, taking one fast lap to heat those engines up, then they all fall in line and when the flagman gives them the 1 to go signal, they all bunch up and head into turn one, coming out of turn 2 they look like a parade of colors, but then after rounding turn 3 , the flagman throws the green flag and that's when a streak of cars barrel past the flag stand and round turn one, that is when the action picks up, because if there is going to be a crash it will happen in turn 0ne and turn 2.
As I am filming, sometimes I get a brief chance to look down at the fans, and you can see them standing, because these cars, are moving and the action is always fast and furious. The crowd loves to watch those fast and furious Sportsman Car races. You have drivers, like the G1 car driven by Glenn McWaters, the 99 driven by Rucker Orr, and many more outstanding drivers.
These are the Sportsman drivers, and they don't come to take second place.
After the Sportsman race, that is when the crowd can sit down because the next feature seems the longest, and they are called the "Pure Mini" cars, in these cars there are some new drivers just getting their feet wet into racing, and this is the first step up the ladder.
Then we have the more experinced driver's that have driven in this class year in and year out, and they have gotten better as the years have past.
Some of the top pure mini driver's are #88 of Rocky (look alike of Dale Earnhardt Jr) Johnson, he will always be some where in the front.
Aslo the #C17 of Danny Smith, when I first met Danny he was driving a comoflaged car, so I called him the "Camo Man", he has now changed the color of his car, but that has not stopped him from winning some big races at the Burg.
This season, the pure mini class will have a new driver and that would be the son of Hobby car driver, Jeff Carter, and his number will be of course #3 his name Robbie Carter, watch him as this is his first time behind the seat of a race car, and who knows what will happen.
The last race of the night is called "S
treet Stock" and it has always been a long drawn out race, but there have always been different winners. Who knows what this season will bring for these guys.
So all I have to say is get ready for the best season, at "The Burg" or West Georgia Speedway this 2009 season, I can see some great changes already, bring the family and lets all have a safe and exciting racing season.
