The Hobby Race and Wreck

“The Hobby race, "oh" what a race”

When you have some 13 cars in a race, you know you are going to have some mix-ups and spins and wrecks.

These are the so called weekend Warriors, and they come out on Saturday night at the New Senoia Raceway to, “Play in the Clay”.

Some Hobby drivers can bide their time, like old friend and champion driver #M4 of Winford Minix.

He can hang in there with the best of the drivers, then you have some really aggressive drivers that are young, talented, raw and just need some of the edges taken off, like #4 Cory Potts, who can drive like the wind, the trouble is some times he looks like he wins, only to be disqualified after a motor inspection.

Potts has been the real man that everyone seems to want to out run, mainly I believe they should stay out of his way, because he is not afraid of pushing, shoving are bending a fender or two to get to the front of the pack. Cory is a hard nosed go get’um driver.

He has a outstanding car, when it is legal, and if he would have finished every race and legally won he would have really made and set some records at Senoia. But when they tear his car down, and he is not legal, he loses and that is not good.

Saturday night, Potts was in the middle of another all out war, and he was beating and banging his way to the front, like I said he has the car that can win the races it is just a matter of getting him to the end of the race without a torn up race car.

Potts Saturday night, smashed into car #91 and went almost on his side, he was dazed and confused and was frustrated as some of the Senoia Raceway infield fans were making their voices known how they felt about his wreck.

As he was pulling himself from a bent up race car, that had just been in a major wreck, he had to hear the jeers from the fans.

Potts #4 was through for the night and had to be towed to the infield, where he was not feeling so good himself. Never mind the car, because it can be replaced, but you have to look at the personal side of Cory, he was throwing up, had a headache and these are not good signs after being involved in a wreck. He would later go to the hospital to be checked out. When I spoke to him he said he really blacked out when the wreck happened for a few seconds. Then he was out of his car and ready to fight some of the fans who were heckling him.

For all those concerned Potts is ok, and will be returning to the track once he has his car back in shape and will be ready to run again with some of the best drivers in racing.

He has trouble when it comes to waiting and hanging in there, he wants to lead all the laps, he wants to prove he can drive with the best.

All in all Cory Potts is a good driver that needs to have some patience on the track, once he gathers that in he will run with the best of the drivers.

He has the car, now to just make sure it is legal and win some of the big races. I remember when I was speaking with Tony Stewart, you know “Smoke”, I asked him one time what he did to get better and he told me point blank, I had a temper problem, and I decided to make a change in the way I drove and sure enough, Stewart has been is some big wins in NASCAR since then.

So if you can harness all of Cory Potts anger and get him focused on winning, and not in the first lap, you will see one of dirt track racings top drivers emerge and win some big races.

So good luck Cory and we hope that you get your car back and we see you race another Saturday night at the New Senoia Raceway.

Hope Potts gets well after that hard lick and as fans everyone should be happy he walked away, there is nothing worse than to see a driver carried away from a wreck, when they are walking and talking, that makes the real race fans happy.

See you at Senoia Saturday night.

Thanks,

RESULTS FROM SENOIA 6-26-10

Senoia Raceway June 26th, 2010 What a Night

What can you say but what a night it turned out to be at New Senoia Raceway on what was supposed to be a full moon night, the moon was hiding behind clouds thus taking off the racers nightmare, it did appear when the Enduro race was being run but that was too late because the other features were over.

Again the Modified Mini race was without #9 Evan Lancaster who I hate to report but has broken his right foot when his ATV fell on it. He is in pain and won’t be racing for a while but this is what happens when you ride motorcycles and then want to race.

Evan needs to hang up the ATV deal, and concentrate on winning races all over the South. "GET WELL EVAN, and hurry back to racing"

So the Modified mini race was another low car turn out, but all time champion Frank Long #07 was back and had his car in winning shape, as again he took the Modified Mini car win, with ease.

In the Hobby race what could you say but it was scheduled for 20 laps and seems like 30 laps, as cars were wrecking all over the track. The main wreck came from #4 Cory Potts who drove over and into car #91 and was almost on his side on the front straight away when his car would come to a halt. That was really when the action picked up as Cory exited the car, ready to fight all the folks that came running over to congratulate him for tearing up his car, he almost went over the wall after some folks before Security came rushing in to make the fans scatter. It was almost like a free for all, and he was the main target, seems Cory is trying to drive a B-Cadet car in the Hobby race and even if he wins, he is disqualified and my question is why race in a race you know your car will be disqualified in every Saturday night?

Seems someone needs to tell him more about racing, and winning.

Anyway the race would go on, and on, and on, and seem like it was never going to end but when it did end we did have a winner. He was none other than, #4 of Tyler Brown, who is great friends with the Late Model driver of #21c Kenny “Quick” Collins.

Finishing in 2nd place was #M4 of Winford Minix and in 3rd place was #74 of Jamie Garner.

When the Hobby race was over we could all sit back and watch the Crate and Limited Late Models qualify,
and there were some fast times mainly set by #21c of Kenny “Quick” Collins who blistered the track with a 14.80 are what could have been faster.

After the qualifying it was time for the big boys the B-Cadet cars to roll on the track and larger than life #3 Jeff Carter was on the pole. What was amazing about this was during hot laps Jeff’s car went smashing into the inside wall, as his car got hung up in the mud, when it was over the tow truck was hauling him back to the infield pit area to where his trailer was so that he could load the lump of what was a great car back onto his hauler.
But wait who says Jeff Carter is down and out, oh that’s right I did because from where I was standing filming the race, his car and wheels were smashed in and I would look to my spotter and say that is his night it’s all over.
But when the race started there he was pulling out onto the track as if a miracle had happened to his car.
The miracle came from 3 angels, are friends, one was late model driver #73 Racing Jason Williams, two by #25 late model driver who was not racing this night Scott Duffy and third from another friend Johnny Puckett, with the help of these good friends, and Robbie Carter Jeff’s son and also “Sunshine” Terry Finnel, they were able to some how get Jeff’s car ready to race. They were pulling tires and fixing bent up parts, it was a amazing feat of workmanship and drivers showing they cared.
Most race drivers, would not help each other, but you know the about people I mentioned are not “MOST DRIVERS” they are caring and thoughtful and want to help a winner
.
All in all they helped Jeff with the breaking down of tires, and fixing a bent dragline that was bent into an “L” shape. It was hard work and everyone was rushing doing what they could do to help Jeff make the race. It was almost as good as those boys in NASCAR except they did not have all the fancy tools, but they did have will power and get up and go. I would hate to leave out the cheerleader of the bunch and that was “Mama Lisa Carter”, who was sick when he hit the wall but came to life when everyone was scrambling to get his car back in running shape.
All in all when the B-Cadet cars were pulling onto the track I was focused on the back straight where they come onto the track when my spotter “Jake, said look here comes Jeff Carter”, it was amazing and I was in denial. I could not see any way that Carter would be in the race, as a matter of fact I told Jake if he runs he will not finish because a wheel will come off, come on Tino get real.

When Carter lined up on the pole with #22 William Blair next to him I could not believe it, also in this race would be #4 of Robin Collins, ever heard his name well if not that is Kenny Collins father, and he would be racing in B-Cadet, I had know idea at the time I was filming who he was.
But I did know who #01 was and that was young gun Blant Duke who is known for having a winning attitude, and also #31 of Lee Fuller, who has found no love loss with Jeff Carter, also racing were 2 of the Bright boys #T7 of Tim Bright and #777 of Michael Bright and adding to the field was #GT47 of Thomas Phillips.

When the race started it was all Jeff Carter, as he drove the tires off of his race car, and was turning like there was no tomorrow, he was in a rush and that rush was to win something he did last week, it seems he has this thing called “A Winning Spirit” in him now, and the Big Man has become a crowd favorite with all the fans at Senoia raceway.
He reminds you a little of NASCARS legend Buddy Baker, who was a huge man, and when he races they did not have all these fancy cars they had real cars, and he just mashed the gas, sometimes losing races because they said he was to hard on his car.

Now Jeff had no idea that #4 was Kenny Collins father but then again, the driver of the #4 was just another opponent someone else he had to beat.
So in reality he was not looking back, all I do know is that Duke took out GT47 and that is when I believe Lee Fuller could have cut a tire because there was lots of spinning cars and lots of metal flying and I could see Fuller run over what I believe to be metal, which is why he came into the pits never to return.

When the Checkered flag was flying it was Jeff Carter in his #3 car flying under it, and coming in 2nd was Robin Collins with #01 of Blant Duke coming in 3rd.

Carter would bring his #3 car in front of the flag stand and give thanks to a crew that got him back in the race, and also thank the great fans of Senoia Raceway, he was a winner for the 2nd week in a row and I would not count him out in next weekends big race at the New Senoia Raceway, if he wins maybe someone should put a “BOUNTY” on him like they did Scott Sherrer in Hobby and also Mike Ray in Enduro.

When the B-Cadets had rolled off the track it was time for the always fast Nesmith Crate Cars, and leading the way was #0 of Craig Scott, but he was in a battle with long time driver, #55 of Parish Duncan who seems to have been racing forever.
Also in this race was young and talented 14 year old Matt Dooley driving #18 , he would spin twice all because of one small part, I look for Dooley to be back and racing harder at Senoia Raceway, he is one talented young man that knows how to drive. He is also a crowd favorite and that is something to say for someone of his age.
Also in this super race were driver like, #19 of Jeremy Hall, #25 of Dustin Hendrix, #16 of Trey White plus #T11 of Troy Tyson And #21 of Johnny Stinchcomb and lastly #32 of Bobby Mills.

flew it was all CraiBut when the green flag g Scott in his #0 super fast car. Chasing him was #55 Parish Duncan and it was hard to believe but #19 Jeremy Hall would finish in 3rd place. There was NO SHOW of Tony Kemp, which was amazing in itself.
Matt Dooley would finish respectfully in 6th place and ahead of him would be #25 of Dustin Hendrix and #16 of Trey White.

When the Limited Late Models pulled onto the track we knew it was going to be a fast night, as you would have #21c of Kenny Collins on the pole.
But the field was packed with outstanding drivers like #73 of “Racing Jason Williams” plus #9 of Shane Fulcher, and then we had #11 of Ryan Law a driver I had not seen for some time.
How could you forget #99 Rucker Orr, and #27 of Glenn Morris not to mention #89 of Carey Smith, and #28 of Daniel Goodman.

The track was minus last weeks 40 lap $2000 winner, Shane Criswell in his #18c, who was probably taking some time off and relaxing.

But like all great races, the green flag fell and every driver was headed to the front, but the driver that had what it took was talented #21c of Kenny “Quick” Collins, who was blistering the way around the track in his revised car, that he had worked on for so long, his win was a fitting finish to a great and exciting race.
His closest competitor was #9 of Shane Fulcher who knows how to win the big races at Senoia, plus #73 of Racing Jason William, who promised me he would beat Rucker Orr, in some way.
Glen Morris would go on and finish in 4th place and Rucker Orr would finish in 5th place, something unusual for Orr.

Winning the race and getting a standing ovation from the Senoia Raceway crowd was young 19 year old Kenny “Quick” Collins.
In 2nd place was #9 of Shane Fulcher
And coming in 3rd was #73 of Racing Jason Williams one class driver
.

When the pure mini stock cars rolled out onto the track I knew we were in for another gunfight, and that was because #16 last weeks winner Steven Hill who would be looking for his 2nd win at Senoia.
But this race was filled with cars that just did not wanted Steven to win like, #4 of Dusty Jones, #7 of Russel Bright, not to mention #54 of “Stormin Norman Chambers”, plus #00 of Matthew Black, and #19 of Vernon Nix plus hard charging #80 of Benton Morris and #12 of Gary Parker, plus add #J17 of Joe Spencer and you have a race and a half.

The race was tight up until, coming around turn 1 into turn 2 Steven Hill got a little help from some friends and was sent spinning, and that would be his night.

But the night belonged to young 16 year old #4 of Dusty Jones who has been making it a habit of winning at New Senoia Raceway, and if he does not win he comes in a close 2nd in almost every race.

So winning the Pure Mini Stock race was again was #4 of Dusty Jones who blazed his way around the raceway.
Coming in a close 2nd was #80 of Benton Morris and finishing in 3rd place was #12 of Gary Parker finishing in 4th place was always intimidating #7 of Russel Bright.

As the last race of the night came upon us, that is when the full moon broke out from behind the clouds. The race was packed with some super drivers like #99 Mike Ray, who got out of the grandstands to race again, plus #21 of Kevin Horton, plus #4 of Michel Nelms and #16 of Austin Horton, then we had the #21s of Sammy Barge plus legendary #86 of Pappy Powell.

But finishing and winning the race was #21 of Kevin Horton followed in 2nd place by #21s of Sammy Barge, and coming in 3rd was #4 of Michael Nelms

That would come to a close another night at Senoia Raceway where every Saturday Night drivers come to “Play in the Clay”.

We hope we see you next weekend for another weekend of racing plus at the end a all out war of a demolishtion derby FWD ONLY, this should get crazy.

I don’t have anything to add regarding the food at Senoia except it is TOP OF THE LINE, and you need to thank all the kitchen help that Mark Mills has put together, everyone of them is kind and considerate and thoughtful. Serving you with a smile, something you won’t see at other tracks.

Many Thanks to everyone,

Thank again, Tino Patti

FULL MOON NIGHT AT SENOIA RACEWAY

“SATURDAY NIGHT, WILL BRING OUT THE BEST BECAUSE…?”

Saturday night will be a great night IF, the Green Flag falls, and the rain stays away.

Put it this way I have been looking forward to June 26th 2010 for a long time.

Why, oh because there will be a “FULL MOON” and in racing a “FULL MOON” means lots of racing excitement, more than usual.

If you can not bear to be there, please don’t come because the action will be intense.

I have had the pleasure of filming “FULL MOON” nights at different race tracks here in the South and there is nothing wilder than the action you see when the Moon is full, it almost makes the drivers turn into beasts, and sometimes it can get crazy.

Racing in the Topless Limited Late Model Race will be #99 Rucker Orr, who won the fast driver award last Saturday night, he would have started on the pole but he had his car inverted and was placed in row two instead of starting on the pole, where he could have out driven #18c Shane Criswell, and maybe even #G1 Glenn McWater’s, but that would have been tough.

Criswell has owned Senoia Raceway, it seems anyway, he has the car that seems to be the one to beat, and again he walked away with $2000 cash in the great 40 lap feature race. Coming in 2nd was #99 of Rucker Orr, who was not given the applause he should have received, it was more like “Boo’s from the Senoia Raceway crowd”, and something really Rucker has been used to.
But as he said and this is a quote “That just means the crowd is watching him”, and that is the truth, he does have his #99 car working better and it seems like it will be a matter of time when he gets that track down to where he knows it like a glove, and when that happens he is off to winning races almost every Saturday night.

But Senoia Raceway, is not just a track that brings in a few local drivers, it brings in some of the best late model drivers that can make it there. They come from Alabama, North Georgia, and some as far as Mississippi, and places unknown.

So each race can be different, because you have some of the best drivers in racing, showing up at the new Senoia raceway.

So fans get ready for some exciting late model action Saturday night.

One more note on the Limited Late Model race, a young and talented driver to hit the wall coming out of turn 4 at Senoia Raceway, Kenny “Quick” Collins will be back Saturday night at Senoia, his car will not have all the graphics on it but it will have #21C and that is all you need to know.
Kenny has been profiled by this writer in an earlier blog,
he is just 19 and owns his own business.
So be looking for Kenny “Quick” Collins at Senoia hopefully this weekend.

Also this weekend the Crate Cars will return, with some of the best drivers around, like #16 Tony “The Tiger” Kemp will be back. Also we hope that #18 young 14 year old Matt Dooley will return to race his #18 car.
Tod Darda may return in his #91 car we hope
, he was a little upset after the Late Model race Saturday night. Other great Crate drivers will be #55 Parrish Duncan, who seems to have been racing for years. Josh Noles will try and have his #16 car back after he spun out in lap one of the 40 lap race Saturday night.

All in all we should see some great Crate and Late Model races this weekend with some of the best of the weekend warriors.

The Modified Mini race should feature, Evan Lancaster if he has another car ready, and I am sure he will not be hitting another wall at Senoia during hot laps, you can bet on that.

The Hobby race will be getting some new faces soon, as #K1 Kip Stanfill will be bringing his “Black” new ride to Senoia raceway. He has been one of the top drivers when he was racing and I have no doubt he will be back to the top of his game again. Kip owns Kips Automotive in Douglasville, Georgia where he works all week long. His wife takes the calls and makes sure everyone is taken care of with a friendly smile. She is a major part of Kips Automotive who business is starting to boom.
We all hope the best for Kip, so fans be ready when the black #K1 rolls onto the dirt at Senoia raceway, you will be watching one of the best drivers in Georgia.

We also hope that #41 Scott Sherrer gets his car back together after rolling it at East Alabama Speedway. We all miss Scott, who was that man with the bounty on his head. Hurry back Scott!!

The B-Cadet series will be taking on some new reasons to watch, as Jeff Carter try’s to make it back to back wins, in his still damaged car. His front bumper was messed up after he was being spun by #31 of Lee Fuller, and there is no love being lost between these two hot drivers. Carter in his #3 has been the driver to beat even with #01 car of Blant Duke in the race. Duke has always been known for winning some big races at West Georgia Speedway. At Senoia he has taken only one win, so give him a break. Others in the B-Cadet race that should give Carter and Fuller some heat could be #25 Bobby Slauson, who will be returning Saturday night.

When the Pure Mini Stock races rolls on, we are wondering if #16 Steven “Tall” Hill, will try and win his 2nd feature in a row at Senoia. He captured a win Saturday night, but he was being chased by Dusty Jones in car #4. Also in the chase and is always lurking is #7 of Russell Bright, who is always a force.
Who ever wins, it will be an all out battle.

After the Late Model race, let’s hope we see #99 Mike Ray back in the drivers seat and out of the grandstands. Mike has been a force in the Enduro race, he runs well when he is racing with young #4 Michael Nelms and #16 Austin Horton, who always put on a show for the fans.

If you are coming to Senoia raceway make sure that you don’t stop and eat before the race, make sure you take some time to eat at Senoia Raceway where you will find the best in foods.

Thanks to Mark Mills, and his staff for making such great food, you want to come back for more and more.

Also thanks to Tony and Tim Moses for trying to keep the track in the best of shape.

And a big “THANKS, to Big Jack Mills” who handles the drivers coming into the track. He is the man they have to listen to, and believe it or not they do.

Again Thanks,

Tino Patti

Forecast for Saturday, Come On get real

“Is Rain in the Forecast for Saturday’s race?”

That would be all we would need is another rain out at Senoia raceway, I mean come on this is getting a little sickening for Dirt Track race fans.

More so with Drivers who work all week on their cars only to have a Saturday nights race rained out.

But hang in there, because it is only a 30% chance of liquid sunshine falling, so maybe again like last Saturday night Senoia Raceway will be spared.

There is nothing worse than coming to a race track all hyped up and ready to see some dirt sling’ in only to find out the race will be called.

The only bad deal with me is if it rains, that means I am not shooting any of the races due to rain ruining some high dollar camera equipment. I hope you can see my part of the deal.

If I was protected inside of a building even behind glass well I would be filming every race.

But those are the breaks in life, right?

Anyway I hope we can go “Green” Saturday night, because even thought it will just be a normal race, meaning the Crate Cars will return, plus the fast Limited Late Models, and we know we are looking for some new winners in these races, we shall also see what is becoming one of the fiercest battles in racing in the B-Cadet Series, with drivers like Jeff Carter, Lee Fuller, maybe Blant Duke, Bobby Slauson, and Jason Causey and of course one or two more B-Cadet cars, it will be a rough and tough night.

To get the show all started will be the Modified Mini races, and we all hope to see Evan Lancaster back, even if he is driving in a new car, because he hit the wall really hard during hot laps prior to last weekends race. I have know idea if Frank Long will return in his famous #07 car.
But how much can we bet that #8 John Caldwell will return after his win Saturday night at Senoia raceway.

When the Hobby class pulls onto the track I believe it will be minus Cory Potts #4 car who we believe is selling his car, this could be a rumor, but who knows in racing. The winner #1 Nathan McBride was also disqualified along with Potts for having unapproved carburetors, so the win went to long time veteran, #M4 of Winford Minix.

Hobby car racing has been something else without #41 Scott Sherrer, who was the man with the bounty on his head for so many races before he crashed in Alabama and is now rebuilding his car. He will be a good sight to see when he does return to Senoia Raceway.
NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE NOTICE !

Coming soon sometime this year is #K1 of Kip Stanfill,
a driver that has out preformed so many drivers in so many races, and when he brings his “BLACK #K1” to Senoia Raceway that is when the Hobby car races will be on! Kip is working on his car daily but since he works and owns his own shop called Kips Automotive in Douglasville Georgia it is taking him longer than he wants. He is determined to be behind the wheel before racing season is over at Senoia raceway, and I know the fans will love Kip because he is a no nonsense driver.
When the Pure Mini Stock came out we had a change in winners again Saturday night as young tall Steven Hill in his #16 blazed the trail around the track as if he owned it. In hot pursuit was #4 of Dusty Jones who knows how to win at Senoia. Another driver that was hot on their tails was #7 of Russell Bright and when a Bright is chasing you I hope you are moving fast because he can and will run you down.

I have to mention this to make sure all the drivers are prepared for the female driver of the year to grace the track again in her #77 car, and it is “Purple” I am speaking of non other than Joyce Price, a soon to be racing legend in motor sports.

I hope you men are ready to race with this fine outstanding driver, FEMALE driver #77 Joyce Price when she comes back to Senoia raceway soon. If you are wondering who she is look for the “Purple” Car, that will be Joyce.

When the Enduro cars were racing it was so strange seeing the Elderly Spokesman Mike Ray and his famous #99 sitting in the grandstands just watching the race, it was like he was on vacation. Come on Mike get back in that car, we need to see some super racing.

Glad to see #86 of young “Pappy Powell”, a legend of his own. Pappy would go on to finish in 6th place and winning the race was young #4 of Michael Nelms.
Greg Butler in car #23 finished in 2nd place and following him was #16 Austin Horton.

All in all the race went all 15 laps and no crashes of any kind, maybe next time we can get “Mike Ray” back in his #99 car so we know we will see some action.

Hope the rain holds off and everyone get ready for some great racing from the New Senoia Raceway, where everything is great from the racing to the food.

Until next time see ya at the races!

Thanks,

Tino Patti

Late Models run all 40 laps at Senoia

The Fastest Track in the South!

Watering the track, a must at one of the best tracks in Georgia

Cars starting to come in, for the big

race of the season, and it is going to

be a good one.

“40 Lap Limited Late Model race, makes it all 40 laps”

If you were at New Senoia Raceway, on June 19th, 2010 then you could have witnessed history as the Limited Late Model cars ran for 40 laps and the purse was paying $2000.00 to win.

So as rain threatened the area, and race fans made sure they had brought their rain gear, umbrellas of every color, they were ready to watch an exciting night of racing action.

With rain closing, east Alabama, Dixie and WGS.

Senoia Raceway was the only raceway to run, and they made sure the show was top of the line.

Drivers were coming in from all directions to race in the Late Model $2 K to win race, everyone wants some of that action.

Drivers like #G1 of Glenn McWaters would again show up, so did #99 of Rucker Orr, plus #91 Tod Darda, and Matthew Turner brought back his #77 car, also racing was last times 2 K dollar winner #9 Shane Fulcher. Also back was last weeks winner #8 David Burton, and local favorites like #27 Glenn Morris, and who could leave out #18c of Shane Criswell who seems to own Senoia Raceway.
Richard Mills who races in Alabama would bring his #1 car, but late in the race would go spinning.
Also #27 of Rodney Peters also showed up, and he would make an influence on the race.

When the green flag dropped to race everyone was ready for some super fast action and that is what they got, plenty of fast racing action.

What was sad was #25 of Scott Duffy and also missing from the action was #73 of “Racing Jason Williams”. They would sit this race out and watch as spectators in the grandstands. Some where they are not used to being when racing season is here.

During qualifying, one of the top drivers hit the wall in turn 3 hard and that would take him out of the race, that was young #21c of Kenny “Quick” Collins, who made is way to Senoia to try and collect that $2000 cash and trophy.

With Collins out of the race, it would make everything different. But racing is racing and all drivers mean to win, every time they strap on their helmets.

Racing would be tough but when it’s tough the best drivers come out to race. Rucker Orr was hoping to get his first big win at Senoia but that was not to happen, because even though he qualified at the fastest driver of the night, the field was inverted and he was placed in the 2nd row behind, Tod Darda and Shane Criswell. Next to him was his old rival Glenn McWaters who knows how to win, but this would not be Glenn’s night at winning. He also would fall short of winning the big two thousand dollars in cash.

Race fans are the best here they are with Umbrella's everyone wants to see a race, these are the real fans in sports.

With Criswell on the pole and Darda next to him it looked like it could be the race of the night, Darda does not backup to any driver. Same is said for the #99 car of Rucker Orr.

One driver who came in late, but was there before the races began was Matthew Turner in his #77 car, a car that can not be mistaken. Turner has been a winner at Senoia before so you know he knows his way around the track. One driver that took me by surprise was car #27 of Rodney Peters who would go on to finish in 3rd place, and you know that is not shabby when you are driving in the company of other great drivers.

So when the late model race was over, and 40 laps had been completed again it was the #18c of Shane Criswell taking home the $2000 cash and trophy.
Finishing in 2nd place was hard charging #99 of Rucker Orr and in 3rd place was #27 of Rodney Peters. Coming in 4th was #77 of Matthew Turner with young #89 Carey Smith holding down the 5th place spot.

Drivers like Shane Fulcher, Glenn McWaters and David Burton would finish in the back of the pack and the car that surprised me #91 Tod Darda finished in 11th place, after he got tangled up in a late wreck. The car that finished last was #16 of Josh Noles who I believe hit the wall, in turn one.

Let me tell you the fans at Senoia Raceway got there share of some great Limited Late Model racing and they went all 40 laps.

The race started with the Modified Mini race, minus Evan Lancaster, hitting the wall in hot laps, and ruining his night. He would not race and that was unfortunate because Lancaster has the winning car at Senoia. He has been the man to beat, and when he was not driving the #9 white mustang he would let Erik Hogsed drive and he would win, the car was unbeatable. Except for Saturday night when he would not even start the race.

This fan is getting his battery charged before a race,
its really a super nice cooler!

Starting the Modified Mini race were 4 cars, #21 Chris Carr, #8 John Caldwell, #3 Trey Hudson, and #55 Richard Bloom, Lancaster would not start after cracking his car up. I spoke with Evan a day after the race and he said he would be back, if not in his famous #9 he would have another car ready to run. Now he is one class driver, and if Erik Hogsed can get his car ready he will be running in the Pure Mini Stock race at Senoia Raceway.

The battle raged on with car #21 Chris Carr looking like he would be the car to beat, but coming from behind and making a dramatic win would be #8 of John Caldwell, who took the checkered flag at Senoia Raceway, in a race that he never looked like he had a chance in.

After the Modified Mini cars ran, it was time for the Hobby car feature, this week again minus #41 Scott Sherrer who cracked up his car at East Alabama speedway a week ago. Scott is fine he just has to rebuild his car, and that is what will take time.

Starting in the Hobby car feature were, #4 of Cory Potts, #M4 of Winford Minix, #41 of Jason Anthony, #12 of Gary Brand, #57 of Craig Ownbey, #18 of Chris Morris, and #1 of Nathan McBride and #4 of Cory Potts, and lastly #20 of Michael Mills who did not start because he hit the wall in hot laps.

The winner we thought was #1 Nathan McBride and coming in 2nd was #4 of Cory Potts both cars were disqualified, and that would give the win to long time champion #4 Winford Minix.
That win would give #41 Jason Anthony 2nd place and in 3rd place would be #12 Gary Brand
.

So without a hitch the cars went all 15 laps and that was what was scheduled.

Congratulations to Winford Minix who won after the first 2 cars were disqualified.

Then it was time for the B-Cadet cars to take the track, and there was no love loss between, #3 of Jeff Carter and #31 of Lee Fuller, who still blames Jeff for sending him into the wall earlier in the season. Also in the race were great drivers like #GT47 of Thomas Philips and #47 of Jason Causey, not to mention #T11 of T.J.Joiner, also was #777 of Lonnie Bright, #28 of Robert Chandler, #32 of Bobby Mills, plus last weeks winner #01 of Blant Duke also running was #T7 Tim Bright, and last #1 Allen Roddy.

Take this many cars in the B-Cadet and you are going to have a outstanding race, more so when you have top notch drivers like Jeff Carter and Blant Duke not to mention Jason Causey, but who would realize that #31 of Lee Fuller would try and rough up Jeff Carter, by hanging onto his back bumper and trying to spin Jeff, in which he finally did, causing Carter to go against the turn 2 inside wall, and also taking out one other car. During that spin it was where Carter was vulnerable to being hit in the driver’s side door, which is not the best place to be hit. After the spin, the flag man pointed at Lee Fuller in his #31 car where he was told to get to the back of the field which infuriated Lee. That would mean he would have to beat and bang his way back to the front of the field, but the race was all over before he got half way back. He did finish in 4th place but he had to beat and bang his way past other top drivers.
The Order of the B-Cadet finish was: Winning #3 Jeff Carter, and coming in 2nd place was #GT47 Thomas Philips and finishing in 3rd place was #47 of Jason Causey.

When the Cadets are on the track you are watching some of the toughest drivers in racing, they take this serious and it can get hairy at times.

Drivers never forget, I guess Lee Fuller still thinks Jeff Carter put him in the wall, oh well that is racing.

Not making the race due to mechanical troubles was #25 of up and coming star Bobby Slauson. Hope he will return Saturday night because with Slauson in the field it could get wilder.

After the B-Cadet cars ran, it was time for the Pure Pony cars, and they would really put on a show for the Senoia raceway crowd.
Drivers like #16 young and talented Steven “Tall” Hill was ready to rumble with the best
. And those other drivers were #4 of Dusty Jones, #7 of Russell Bright, plus #67 of Michael Crawford, and #j17 of Joey Spencer plus #27 of Sam Wright also in the field was #39 of Bobby Arnold and #18 of Joe Russell.

But this night belonged to #16 Steven Hill, who out motored #4 Dusty Jones in every way. Hill who has driven in countless races at West Georgia Speedway and other places would take his first win at Senoia Raceway, and it was a pleasure watching this “TALL” young man crawl from his race car to take the winning flag and also get the interview of the night. He is growing in his racing career and I can say I am happy that I had the chance to film him winning. I knew Steven was a capable driver, and I knew he would go far, but how much more to the top will he go?

Again Steven Hill would take the Pure Mini Win, and I know he will be back because he seems to have this track down now.
Finishing in 2nd place was #4 of young Dusty Jones
And in 3rd place was #7 of hard charging Russell Bright, you can’t keep a “Bright” Down.

The Enduro race was without, #99 Mike Ray who was stilling in the stands watching and taking in the crowds view of the race, most of the time Mike is in his #99 and is blazing around Senoia Raceways track, he has been a winner and at one time he even had a bounty on him. But tonight Mike Ray was sitting among the many fans at fans taking in the racing action, this elderly Statesman is one class act driver and not seeing him race was kind of a let down for everyone.

Drivers that would race would be #4 Michael Nelms, #23 Greg Butler, #16 Austin Horton and #21 Steve Davis, plus #55 Randy Johnson and the legendary #86 of Pappy Powell, a racing legend in his own right.
Also was #65 of Junior Hatchett driving Charlie Browns car, and #32 of Brandon Miller and last was #43 of Shelbi Nelms.

The Enduro feature was all 15 laps and everyone made it around the 3/8th track with no problems, Justin Horton in his #16 car was racing hard but no driver was catching #4 of Michael Nelms, who was blowing by everyone, that’s when it hit me what would have happened if a driver like #99 Mike Ray would have been racing, I believe we would have seen some real action. But without Mike on the track, it was all #4 of Michael Nelms and finishing in 2nd place was #23 of Greg Burton and in 3rd place would be #16 of Justin Horton.

What will happen next Saturday night as gates open at 5 P.M with racing action starting at 7-7:30 p.m.?

The reason the gates are opening later is because of the tremendous HEAT in Georgia. So fans bring plenty of water and make sure you take advantage of some of the best food at any race track in Georgia. That is right Senoia’s is known for having the best food, and that is all due to professionally people who work tirelessly in the kitchen area making sure you have the best food that you can get. The food is so good that I am looking forward to getting some as soon as the track opens Saturday night, the hot dogs are incredible, and every food that they serve is top of the line. There is NO SKIMPING when it comes to food and preparation. So don’t stop and eat before heading to the track make it a family affair and eat some great food. Make sure you thank Mark Mills for doing such a wonderful job in keep everything fresh and tasty.

Also thank Jack Mills for being such a great guy, making sure that every class race is run right. As for as the track, thank Tony Moses and again Tim Moses, who work tirelessly night after night making sure the track is prepared for some great races.
Also thank those people in the background, the scorers, and everyone that works in Security at this amazing track. And when you are thanking folks give a extra thank you to every person that works in the concession stand making sure your food is correct and you are given that extra smile. These folks work so hard and they need to be thanked.

Driver’s make sure you remember that when you pull your car onto the dirt at Senoia raceway you are racing with some history under your tires, plus you are racing with some of the best dirt track drivers in sports. So remember that all the time you pull into this fantastic race track that is only “Getting Better”.

Many Thanks To everyone,

RACING RESULTS FROM SENOIA 6-12-10

NEW GATE TIME TAKE NOTE !

GATES OPEN AT 5 P.M. WITH RACING STARTING AT 7 P.M. SO MAKE SURE YOU ALL
COME LATER BECAUSE THE SUN IS TOO HOT FOR A LOT OF FOLKS TO STAND/SIT IN THE HOT GEORGIA SUN PRIOR TO A RACE.

GATES AGAIN OPEN AT 5 PM. BE THERE!

Senoia Raceway June 12th, 2010 news

Have you ever been to a “HOT” track, well that is what Senoia Raceway was a Georgia Hot track, with a hot baking sun shining, the people in the stands were hiding a looking for shade or some kind of cover.

The weather was incredible, but the racing turned out to be top-notch.

Every feature race was one that was wild, drivers you thought would win did not and those that did showed some real skill.

From the drop of the Green Flag to start the Hobby race we knew it was going to be a wild night.

Missing the race was Scott Sherrer in his #41 car, who we later found out, rolled his car at East Alabama Speedway Saturday night.

The car was pretty well messed up, but thank GOD Scott came through the wreck with as little as a sore arm, and pretty hurt feelings.

Maybe he should have raced at Senoia raceway instead it may have come out better for him and his car. This is a crazy world in racing, drivers test other tracks and some come away as real losers in more ways than one.

So the Hobby race started out with #4 Mike Parker showing the way around the track, he looked like he would be the winner, but was disqualified after the race. The car that was running in 2nd place #1J Mike Jenkins would also be disqualified so that meant that #12 Gary Brand would go on the win. Coming in 2nd place would be #M4 of Winford Minix with #1 Wayne Chapman finishing in 3rd place. It was a crazy hobby race, and I wish Scott Sherrer could have been racing.

When the Hobby race was over it was time for the Modified Mini cars to run, and there were some fast drivers including #07 Frank Long, #9 Erik Hogsed, #27 Talmadge Simpson and maybe one more car.

I thought the real battle would be between #9 Erik Hogsed and #07 Frank Long, well I was half way right, because Long and Hogsed would try and battle but no one counted on Simpson in his #27 car.

Long as been a winner at lots of tracks that I have been filming but I had never seen him win at the new Senoia raceway, and this would become Frank’s 1st win of the 2010 season at Senoia raceway.

Coming in 2nd place was Hogsed in the #9 car that is owned by Evan Lancaster.

All in all it was a great win for Frank Long, who got the interview and gave out a toy to the happy kids.

Then the B-Cadet cars rolled onto the track and the first two cars looked like the cars to beat, because on the pole was #3 Jeff Carter and next to him was young and talented #01 of Blant Duke, in row two was #47 of Jason Causey and next to him was #25 of Bobby Slauson. Also racing were more cars just to add to the mix.

To get to the point when the green flag fell, it was Duke who blasted away from the field, only to have to have a restart, mostly because he was trying to out jump Jeff Carter. On that 2nd restart, it was all Duke and his #01 car, for some reason Carter had his tires spinning in the dry track, and could not catch Duke.
That left Bobby Slauson and Jason Causey doing some heavy battling. Slauson’s car was not as fast as it was the week before, but that is why they call it racing.

Winning the race was young Blant Duke, who would get the interview and some of the fans cheers. Remember Duke is unknown to fans at Senoia Raceway.

As for as Jeff Carter, he will be back with vengeance, so will Bobby Slauson who is making is making his car a little better every week.

After Qualifying of the Crate and Limited Late models, we would go back to racing with the Crate car feature. Thinking Craig Scott would be the car to beat was just a little wrong on my part, as for some reason he was not hooked up at all and was never really a factor in this race. The Crate race was dominated by #91 Tod Darda.

Battling for racing action was #55 Parish Duncan who was racing hard against #16 Tony “The Tiger” Kemp. Also racing was young #27l Doug Ludwig, and #19 Jeremy Hall.

You know it was a battle royal, but Tod Darda was not to be denied another Senoia Raceway win, so again Darda took the win and thanked the huge Senoia Raceway crowd.

After the Crate cars were off the track it was time for the Pure Mini class feature, which was one spin after another, the driver with the most action was #19 Vernon Nix who was getting tangled up 2 or three times. Nix we could really say was in the “MIX”, and on the back straight the red flag halted all the cars. It was because of a three car wreck on the front straight. You know one of Nix’s cars was taken out in a wreck, and what a wreck. Vernon Nix had been in what I call “In the Nix, Mix, with every turn of the laps”.

The wrecks were cleared up, and we began racing again in the Pure Mini class and #4 Dusty Jones would lead the pack around the long track at Senoia and take another win. He would be chased down by #00 of Mathew Turner, but Jones would not give up, he had his car right and that was all it took to win this race. It was later known that Dusty Jones and his car were disqualified and that would give the Pure Mini win to #D7 of Lonnie Patterson, coming in second was #00 of Matthew Black and in 3rd place was Vernon Nix in his red #19 car that had proved to be in some exciting phases of the race, he was a highlight reel in his self.

After the Pure Mini race, the Limited Late Models took to the track, and the roar was incredible, but everyone knows that these are the cars that everyone comes to see. Drivers like “Racing Jason Williams was there with his #73 car, and when he is racing you know he will be in the front. Drivers that would really make it interesting were good drivers like #27 Glenn Morris, and #28 Jimmy Felton and of course #18c of Shane Criswell, who seemed to have Senoia raceway dialed in with his car. Missing from the racing action was #99 of Rucker Orr and also #25 of young Scott Duffy, both drivers were missed and absence was felt in this 25 lap race.
Also racing was #9 of Shane Fulcher a winning driver at Senoia many a night, and also #24 of Ricky Payton who has always been a threat.

But showing the way around Senoia raceway was #8 of David Burton, who was blowing around the track, he was the man in charge.

Burton would go on and win on this Hot June night at Senoia Raceway in the Limited Late Model race, with Glenn Morris finishing in 2nd place and coming in 3rd was Racing Jason Williams.

What will happen this weekend when $2000 CASH IS ON THE LINE IN A “40 LAP LIMITED LATE MODEL RACE”.

The last time $2000 was on the line #9 Shane Fulcher took home the cash, can he do it again?

One thing for sure the crowds at Senoia raceway should be big, because this is going to be a top notch race, and you will see some of the best Limited Late Model drivers on DIRT at the New Senoia Raceway.

Also make sure you bring your appetite because the food at Senoia is the BEST there is NO OTHER Track that compares.

You can thank Mark Mill, Tony and Tim Moses and Jack Mills for having not only the greatest racing events but also for the best food at any race track in the South.

When you get a chance and see Tim, or Tony or “Big Jack” thank them for all they do. Also if you see Mark Mills who is in charge of the concession stand make sure you compliment him on the great food and drinks, he is the man that makes people happy. Keep the fans happy and fed and you will always have a great track. Racing is great but eating is better.

The Enduro race was won not by #85 Pappy Powell, nor by #99 Mike Ray but by #16 Austin Horton in his famous BLACK BEAUTY RIDE.

Hope I see you at New Senoia Raceway this weekend, and remember it will be HOT so please come prepared. Have plenty of water or drinks available.

To all the winners, we thank you for all the time you spent all week preparing your cars and for all those that finished in 2nd or 3rd or 4th all I can say is come on back, test the track again and who knows you may take that checkered flag at the New Senoia Raceway.

Are you ready to rumble?

Scott Sherrer, is heading back to Senoia maybe?

Will the #41 Hobby car of Scott Sherrer, make a return after a family vacation with his family to the New Senoia Raceway?

You know when Allen McConnell took the checkered flag in last weeks hobby race, it was amazing, because he fought his way to the front and missed the wrecks to get to the top and win in this class.

Sherrer was not there so I was wondering what would have happened if he had been racing.

All I do know is Allen McConnell’s car looked well and of course was good enough to take the win.

If Scott Sherrer would have been racing, and Allen would have beaten him, Allen could have picked up the $250 dollar bounty that was on Sherrer, but since Sherrer was not there, the bounty was off.

As this writer knows, the bounty in the hobby class has been dropped.

Scott Sherrer has become some kind of real mystery driver, but when he wins he is all smiles, and you know everyone on “The Legend” has gotten to know him as he has been interviewed several times by William Barber on Southern Race Week.

96.7 FM on every Wednesday night features a 1 hour racing show starting at 7 PM to 8 PM. Hope you catch this amazing show. The show covers NASCAR, Oval, and Drag racing events in and around the area.

Racing is sometimes fierce and often shows some real classic down hard racing at New Senoia Raceway.

Jack Mills, Tony and Tim Moses were watching the radar on the computers upstairs in the booth, Tim’s wife was watching the radar, and that is why only Allen McConnell, got the standing interview after the race, all the other feature winners just had their photos taken on the front straight. Because there was no time to waste with interviews, it was more or less line the cars up and let’s go racing, which was great in some ways.

What seemed to slow things up, and had everyone worried was the fact that they had 18 limited late model cars to qualify, plus 16 crate cars to qualify also, so it was a real time.

Fans were starting to worry with all the qualifying, but it must be down, so all they could do is sit back look up at the skies and in between that head to the concession stand for some outstanding food.

That made Mark Mills very happy because that is how they make extra money, and if you have not eaten at the concession stand what are you waiting for?

Racing is always great at New Senoia Raceway, but when you combine great racing with great food, what more can a dirt track fan want.

I look forward to watching, Crate car driver #18 young and talented 14 year old Matt Dooley, who will be back in his crate car. Dooley started in the back of the field because he wanted to feel out his new car, but he would go on to finish in 8th place which is great when you think back as to how he rolled his old #18 car at Dixie Speedway. Most drivers would have hung up his helmet and walked away and chose another sport. Not Matt Dooley, this young man and his father Scott Dooley have really been a blessing by getting his car back together and listening to his son, when he could have started up front but he chose to start in the back, this is a pure honest driver.

The Limited Late Model race was won again by #18C of Shane Criswell who has been a racing force at Senoia raceway, chasing him down was #99 Rucker Orr who is battling to get his car in shape. Chasing Orr was #25 Scott Duffy, but Duffy would be passed by #9 of Shane Fulcher.

Every race was exciting, and it was like someone had moved the rain away from New Senoia Raceway and every race went on without a hitch. This was great for Tony, Tim Moses plus Jack Mills.

The pure mini stock class was won by #16r of Eric Hogsed, who has been a winner in any car he drives.

The car that blew everyone away in the Modified Mini class was #9 of Evan “Ricky Bobby” Lancaster.
Chasing him down was drivers like #27 Talmadge Simpson and #07 of veteran driver Frank Long, a long time winner.

The B-Cadet race was just what everyone predicted a all out war between veteran driver, #3 Jeff Carter and young and talented #01 of Blant Duke, who has been racing since he was 15 years old at West Georgia Speedway. Duke tried several times to lay his front bumper on Jeff’s car, and maybe spin him but Blant never did.

Jeff would go on to WIN the B-Cadet race, and now he is back in the groove, whenever Carter is at a track keep a eye out on his #3 red car with the checkered top, he can and will win when he has the chances.

June 11, 2010 at the fastest 3/8th DIRT Track in Georgia, New Senoia Raceway. Hope to see everyone at New Senoia Raceway on Saturday Night
