Late Models run all 40 laps at Senoia

The Fastest Track in the South!

Watering the track, a must at one of the best tracks in Georgia

Cars starting to come in, for the big

race of the season, and it is going to

be a good one.

“40 Lap Limited Late Model race, makes it all 40 laps”

If you were at New Senoia Raceway, on June 19th, 2010 then you could have witnessed history as the Limited Late Model cars ran for 40 laps and the purse was paying $2000.00 to win.

So as rain threatened the area, and race fans made sure they had brought their rain gear, umbrellas of every color, they were ready to watch an exciting night of racing action.

With rain closing, east Alabama, Dixie and WGS.

Senoia Raceway was the only raceway to run, and they made sure the show was top of the line.

Drivers were coming in from all directions to race in the Late Model $2 K to win race, everyone wants some of that action.

Drivers like #G1 of Glenn McWaters would again show up, so did #99 of Rucker Orr, plus #91 Tod Darda, and Matthew Turner brought back his #77 car, also racing was last times 2 K dollar winner #9 Shane Fulcher. Also back was last weeks winner #8 David Burton, and local favorites like #27 Glenn Morris, and who could leave out #18c of Shane Criswell who seems to own Senoia Raceway.
Richard Mills who races in Alabama would bring his #1 car, but late in the race would go spinning.
Also #27 of Rodney Peters also showed up, and he would make an influence on the race.

When the green flag dropped to race everyone was ready for some super fast action and that is what they got, plenty of fast racing action.

What was sad was #25 of Scott Duffy and also missing from the action was #73 of “Racing Jason Williams”. They would sit this race out and watch as spectators in the grandstands. Some where they are not used to being when racing season is here.

During qualifying, one of the top drivers hit the wall in turn 3 hard and that would take him out of the race, that was young #21c of Kenny “Quick” Collins, who made is way to Senoia to try and collect that $2000 cash and trophy.

With Collins out of the race, it would make everything different. But racing is racing and all drivers mean to win, every time they strap on their helmets.

Racing would be tough but when it’s tough the best drivers come out to race. Rucker Orr was hoping to get his first big win at Senoia but that was not to happen, because even though he qualified at the fastest driver of the night, the field was inverted and he was placed in the 2nd row behind, Tod Darda and Shane Criswell. Next to him was his old rival Glenn McWaters who knows how to win, but this would not be Glenn’s night at winning. He also would fall short of winning the big two thousand dollars in cash.

Race fans are the best here they are with Umbrella's everyone wants to see a race, these are the real fans in sports.

With Criswell on the pole and Darda next to him it looked like it could be the race of the night, Darda does not backup to any driver. Same is said for the #99 car of Rucker Orr.

One driver who came in late, but was there before the races began was Matthew Turner in his #77 car, a car that can not be mistaken. Turner has been a winner at Senoia before so you know he knows his way around the track. One driver that took me by surprise was car #27 of Rodney Peters who would go on to finish in 3rd place, and you know that is not shabby when you are driving in the company of other great drivers.

So when the late model race was over, and 40 laps had been completed again it was the #18c of Shane Criswell taking home the $2000 cash and trophy.
Finishing in 2nd place was hard charging #99 of Rucker Orr and in 3rd place was #27 of Rodney Peters. Coming in 4th was #77 of Matthew Turner with young #89 Carey Smith holding down the 5th place spot.

Drivers like Shane Fulcher, Glenn McWaters and David Burton would finish in the back of the pack and the car that surprised me #91 Tod Darda finished in 11th place, after he got tangled up in a late wreck. The car that finished last was #16 of Josh Noles who I believe hit the wall, in turn one.

Let me tell you the fans at Senoia Raceway got there share of some great Limited Late Model racing and they went all 40 laps.

The race started with the Modified Mini race, minus Evan Lancaster, hitting the wall in hot laps, and ruining his night. He would not race and that was unfortunate because Lancaster has the winning car at Senoia. He has been the man to beat, and when he was not driving the #9 white mustang he would let Erik Hogsed drive and he would win, the car was unbeatable. Except for Saturday night when he would not even start the race.

This fan is getting his battery charged before a race,
its really a super nice cooler!

Starting the Modified Mini race were 4 cars, #21 Chris Carr, #8 John Caldwell, #3 Trey Hudson, and #55 Richard Bloom, Lancaster would not start after cracking his car up. I spoke with Evan a day after the race and he said he would be back, if not in his famous #9 he would have another car ready to run. Now he is one class driver, and if Erik Hogsed can get his car ready he will be running in the Pure Mini Stock race at Senoia Raceway.

The battle raged on with car #21 Chris Carr looking like he would be the car to beat, but coming from behind and making a dramatic win would be #8 of John Caldwell, who took the checkered flag at Senoia Raceway, in a race that he never looked like he had a chance in.

After the Modified Mini cars ran, it was time for the Hobby car feature, this week again minus #41 Scott Sherrer who cracked up his car at East Alabama speedway a week ago. Scott is fine he just has to rebuild his car, and that is what will take time.

Starting in the Hobby car feature were, #4 of Cory Potts, #M4 of Winford Minix, #41 of Jason Anthony, #12 of Gary Brand, #57 of Craig Ownbey, #18 of Chris Morris, and #1 of Nathan McBride and #4 of Cory Potts, and lastly #20 of Michael Mills who did not start because he hit the wall in hot laps.

The winner we thought was #1 Nathan McBride and coming in 2nd was #4 of Cory Potts both cars were disqualified, and that would give the win to long time champion #4 Winford Minix.
That win would give #41 Jason Anthony 2nd place and in 3rd place would be #12 Gary Brand
.

So without a hitch the cars went all 15 laps and that was what was scheduled.

Congratulations to Winford Minix who won after the first 2 cars were disqualified.

Then it was time for the B-Cadet cars to take the track, and there was no love loss between, #3 of Jeff Carter and #31 of Lee Fuller, who still blames Jeff for sending him into the wall earlier in the season. Also in the race were great drivers like #GT47 of Thomas Philips and #47 of Jason Causey, not to mention #T11 of T.J.Joiner, also was #777 of Lonnie Bright, #28 of Robert Chandler, #32 of Bobby Mills, plus last weeks winner #01 of Blant Duke also running was #T7 Tim Bright, and last #1 Allen Roddy.

Take this many cars in the B-Cadet and you are going to have a outstanding race, more so when you have top notch drivers like Jeff Carter and Blant Duke not to mention Jason Causey, but who would realize that #31 of Lee Fuller would try and rough up Jeff Carter, by hanging onto his back bumper and trying to spin Jeff, in which he finally did, causing Carter to go against the turn 2 inside wall, and also taking out one other car. During that spin it was where Carter was vulnerable to being hit in the driver’s side door, which is not the best place to be hit. After the spin, the flag man pointed at Lee Fuller in his #31 car where he was told to get to the back of the field which infuriated Lee. That would mean he would have to beat and bang his way back to the front of the field, but the race was all over before he got half way back. He did finish in 4th place but he had to beat and bang his way past other top drivers.
The Order of the B-Cadet finish was: Winning #3 Jeff Carter, and coming in 2nd place was #GT47 Thomas Philips and finishing in 3rd place was #47 of Jason Causey.

When the Cadets are on the track you are watching some of the toughest drivers in racing, they take this serious and it can get hairy at times.

Drivers never forget, I guess Lee Fuller still thinks Jeff Carter put him in the wall, oh well that is racing.

Not making the race due to mechanical troubles was #25 of up and coming star Bobby Slauson. Hope he will return Saturday night because with Slauson in the field it could get wilder.

After the B-Cadet cars ran, it was time for the Pure Pony cars, and they would really put on a show for the Senoia raceway crowd.
Drivers like #16 young and talented Steven “Tall” Hill was ready to rumble with the best
. And those other drivers were #4 of Dusty Jones, #7 of Russell Bright, plus #67 of Michael Crawford, and #j17 of Joey Spencer plus #27 of Sam Wright also in the field was #39 of Bobby Arnold and #18 of Joe Russell.

But this night belonged to #16 Steven Hill, who out motored #4 Dusty Jones in every way. Hill who has driven in countless races at West Georgia Speedway and other places would take his first win at Senoia Raceway, and it was a pleasure watching this “TALL” young man crawl from his race car to take the winning flag and also get the interview of the night. He is growing in his racing career and I can say I am happy that I had the chance to film him winning. I knew Steven was a capable driver, and I knew he would go far, but how much more to the top will he go?

Again Steven Hill would take the Pure Mini Win, and I know he will be back because he seems to have this track down now.
Finishing in 2nd place was #4 of young Dusty Jones
And in 3rd place was #7 of hard charging Russell Bright, you can’t keep a “Bright” Down.

The Enduro race was without, #99 Mike Ray who was stilling in the stands watching and taking in the crowds view of the race, most of the time Mike is in his #99 and is blazing around Senoia Raceways track, he has been a winner and at one time he even had a bounty on him. But tonight Mike Ray was sitting among the many fans at fans taking in the racing action, this elderly Statesman is one class act driver and not seeing him race was kind of a let down for everyone.

Drivers that would race would be #4 Michael Nelms, #23 Greg Butler, #16 Austin Horton and #21 Steve Davis, plus #55 Randy Johnson and the legendary #86 of Pappy Powell, a racing legend in his own right.
Also was #65 of Junior Hatchett driving Charlie Browns car, and #32 of Brandon Miller and last was #43 of Shelbi Nelms.

The Enduro feature was all 15 laps and everyone made it around the 3/8th track with no problems, Justin Horton in his #16 car was racing hard but no driver was catching #4 of Michael Nelms, who was blowing by everyone, that’s when it hit me what would have happened if a driver like #99 Mike Ray would have been racing, I believe we would have seen some real action. But without Mike on the track, it was all #4 of Michael Nelms and finishing in 2nd place was #23 of Greg Burton and in 3rd place would be #16 of Justin Horton.

What will happen next Saturday night as gates open at 5 P.M with racing action starting at 7-7:30 p.m.?

The reason the gates are opening later is because of the tremendous HEAT in Georgia. So fans bring plenty of water and make sure you take advantage of some of the best food at any race track in Georgia. That is right Senoia’s is known for having the best food, and that is all due to professionally people who work tirelessly in the kitchen area making sure you have the best food that you can get. The food is so good that I am looking forward to getting some as soon as the track opens Saturday night, the hot dogs are incredible, and every food that they serve is top of the line. There is NO SKIMPING when it comes to food and preparation. So don’t stop and eat before heading to the track make it a family affair and eat some great food. Make sure you thank Mark Mills for doing such a wonderful job in keep everything fresh and tasty.

Also thank Jack Mills for being such a great guy, making sure that every class race is run right. As for as the track, thank Tony Moses and again Tim Moses, who work tirelessly night after night making sure the track is prepared for some great races.
Also thank those people in the background, the scorers, and everyone that works in Security at this amazing track. And when you are thanking folks give a extra thank you to every person that works in the concession stand making sure your food is correct and you are given that extra smile. These folks work so hard and they need to be thanked.

Driver’s make sure you remember that when you pull your car onto the dirt at Senoia raceway you are racing with some history under your tires, plus you are racing with some of the best dirt track drivers in sports. So remember that all the time you pull into this fantastic race track that is only “Getting Better”.
